Thriving in the Cracks

from Jack's Super 8 (2017 album) by Paul Sprawl

/

lyrics

Jack is a North American refugee of the spirit from Berkeley, CA
Maybe you still think of it as a bastion of free thinking and imagination,
incubator of vanguard political and creative movements as it was
a few decades ago

It's no longer that way here, there, or anywhere in the USA

Wipe that residual impression from your mind
It's all the belly of the beast now
Spirits eaten to feed the monster
Minds so stuffed full of fear
they can not think coherently, clearly

Jack bought this little store in Alpine, in Big Bend
He's learning to thrive in the cracks
Anyway, Jack likes it better here
He's getting away with being a small scale obscure filmmaker
without engaging much in the spirit-killing competition
for crumbs back in blood sucker central
back in zombie central
