about

This song was originally titled, Hitler's Guitar. I first recorded it for a German label and they told me to change the title because it was too offensive in Germany in 1998. The song is a documentary sort of songwriting, taking it's lyrics directly from Edward, a man living on the streets in Santa Cruz, CA.

lyrics

1.
He was traveling light
Smoking hand rolled tobacco
Swigging orange schnapps
I was eating a tangelo

2.
He had a guitar in a gig bag
No bed roll or pack
Bought for $100
Money Uncle Sam gave back

~chorus~
It was a 1938 Bavarian
With those 3D holographic gargoyles
and skulls on the back
1938 Bavarian

3.
Said it was a valuable instrument
Handed down from father to son
When Michael Hitler aka Mick Jagger
received it from his father
Adolf was the one

~chorus~
It was a 1938 Bavarian
With those 3D holographic gargoyles
and skulls on the back
1938 Bavarian

-instrumental break-

4.
Mick Jagger's wife
donated it to an auction by mistake
organized out in Watsonville
To benefit victims of the '89 earthquake

~chorus~
It was a 1938 Bavarian
With those 3D holographic gargoyles
and skulls on the back
1938 Bavarian
