Spark of Life

from Dirt Roads (2002, album) by Paul Sprawl

/

about

I wrote this song in Montana around the 4th of July.

lyrics

1.
She was born and raised in a small mining town
Raised two kids of her own before the mine shut down
Kids grew up they moved far away
Like the mining company, her husband didn't stay

Living on food stamps
On her own
With the memory
of a broken family home

2.
Writer from a magazine
Came around
Wants to talk with her
For a story about the town

There ain't much goin' on around here
Not since they strip-mined the land
Fouled the river and the forest was cleared

3.
Don't forget me, she said
Don't forget about me
Don't forget me
Don't forget about me

I won't let my life
Be a description of misery
Long as there's a spark of life in me

-bridge-

repeat verse 3.
Don't forget me, she said
Don't forget about me
Don't forget me
Don't forget about me

I won't let my life
Be a description of misery
Long as there's a spark of life
left in me
