about

Written about my friend who MC'd lots of open mics in San Diego, CA. He did a lot to build the SD community of singer songwriters in the late 80's and early 90's. The city turned its back on him and he died in Balboa Park one Christmas morning after drinking a lot for the previous several years. The singer-songwriter "community" in SD then became known for spawning Jewell. Sad

lyrics

1.
Too many nights
Outside in the cold
Didn't live very long
But he sure got old

~chorus~
He was a songwriter
Never finished his songs
Had a sharp eye
and a good heart
It's our loss he's gone

2.
Paper or plastic
In that People magazine kind of town
Always choosing the lesser of two evils
But he just kept falling further down

~chorus~
He was a songwriter
Never finished his songs
Had a sharp eye
and a good heart
It's our loss he's gone

repeat verse 1.
Too many nights
Outside in the cold
Didn't live very long
But he sure got old

~chorus~
He was a songwriter
Never finished his songs
Had a sharp eye
and a good heart
It's our loss he's gone
